Description: 
Shrubs, nearly glabrous except inflorescence. Leaves +/-elliptic, acuminate at both ends, petiolate, margins entire. Inflorescences racemose, spicate or +/-paniculate; bracts large or small; bracteoles large, membranous, often coloured. Calyx divided almost to base into 5 subequal, narrowly oblong, petaloid sepals. Corolla with 5 subequal lobes; tube long and narrowly cylindric or shorter and dilated nearly from base. Androecium : stamens 4, subsimilar, didynamous, included; anthers 2-thecous with thecae parallel and muticous at base. Gynoecium : ovary glabrous; ovules 2 per locule; stigma capitate to obscurely 2-lobed. Capsule stalked, 2- or 4-seeded. Seeds discoid, nearly smooth, hairless.
