Description: 
Epiphytic herbs, monopodial, without pseudobulbs, with elongate stems, with or rarely without leaves. Leaves distichous, articulated to persistent sheath. Inflorescences axillary, few- or several-flowered; flowers small to medium-sized, white, often with green or red tinge. Sepals and petals subequal, free. Lip entire or 3-lobed, ecallose, with conical, clavate or cylindrical spur. Gynostemium stout, without column-foot; anther operculate; pollinia 2, ovoid, with narrow stipe and a solitary, often large viscidium; rostellum short and 2-lobed.
Distribution: 
Species 5, in tropical Africa, Madagascar and the Mascarene Islands; 1 reaches Zululand (KwaZulu-Natal): Solenangis aphylla (Thouars) Summerh.
