Description: 
Scandent shrubs or lianes, semisucculent. Leaves alternate, pinnatifid-lobed, petiolate, auriculate. Capitula discoid, few or many, paniculate-corymbose. Involucre calyculate; bracts +/- 5. Receptacle epaleate. Discflorets bisexual, fertile; corolla yellow. Anthers ecalcarate and ecaudate; endothecial tissue radial. Style branches truncate, sometimes with central tuft of fused papillae. Cypselas oblong, ribbed, glabrous or pubescent. Pappus of many fine bristles.
Distribution: 
Species 16, tropical Africa, Madagascar, Yemen; 1 in sthn Afr.: Solanecio angulatus (Vahl) C.Jeffrey, Northern Province and KwaZulu-Natal.
