Description: 
Shrubs or small trees. Leaves alternate, digitately (1)3- or 4(5)-foliolate; leaflets elliptic or obovate, large, coriaceous. Inflorescence 2-6-flowered, abbreviated racemes on old wood. Calyx: tube campanulate, intruse at base; lobes 4 or 5, oblong, mucronate, veined; disc 0. Petals 0. Stamens 13-18, on a short androphore; filaments terete; anthers oblong. Ovary on a long, terete gynophore, ellipsoid, with +/- 7 ovules; style 0; stigma capitate. Fruit subglobose.
Distribution: 
Species 1, Mozambique and sthn Afr.: Bachmannia woodii (Oliv.) Gilg, KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape.
