Description: 
Perennial herbs or subshrubs. Leaves alternate, simple or dissected. Capitula disciform or discoid, in dense glomerules. Involucral bracts 3: 1 subtending, 2 opposite. Receptacle narrowly conical, with slightly conduplicate, entire or slightly lobed paleae. Florets : marginal florets 2, bisexual, fertile, filiform; disc florets +/-25, bisexual, fertile, greenish white to purple. Anthers caudate. Cypselas elliptic to obovate, triquetrous, slightly hairy. Pappus a crown or absent.
Distribution: 
Species 12, Old World tropics: eastern Africa, Madagascar, NE India, to the Sunda Islands; sthn trop. Afr. 2, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
