Description: 
Scandent shrub or tall woody climber with branches up to 15 m. in length, younger ones +/- densely rusty pubescent, older ones quite glabrous, lenticellate. Leaf-lamina 7-15 (19) x 2.5-5.5 (7) cm., oblong or oblong-elliptic, apex acute to subobtuse or acuminate, base rounded or rarely subcordate or broadly cuneate, coriaceous, usually with one pair of glands near the insertion of the petiole beneath and with 7-13 pairs of prominent lateral nerves, ferrugineous-tomentose (more densely underneath) when young, later usually glabrescent except usually beside the midrib underneath; petiole 2-6 mm. long, stout, canaliculate, pubescent or glabrescent. Inflorescences (5) 8-15 (25) cm. long, usually racemes terminating leafy branches, sometimes axillary, many-flowered, pyramidal in outline; bracts 1-2 mm. long, triangular-lanceolate, densely ferrugineous-tomentose, eglandular; bracteoles very small, eglandular. Flowers c. 2.25 cm. in diam. Calyx with 2-3 circular glands; sepals 3-3.5 x +/- 2.5 mm., ovate, sericeous or glabrescent outside. Petals up to 11 x 8 mm., elliptic to ovate, unguiculate, yellow. Stamens with anthers c. 4 mm. long, oblong-ovate, glabrous; filaments +/- 1.5 mm. long, thick, +/- ligulate. Ovary densely ferrugineous-tomentose; styles 2, 8-10 mm. long, stout, terete, curved inwards. Samara with wing 3-4 (5) x 1.5-2.3 cm., obliquely obovate, sometimes somewhat constricted in the lower half, often distally oblique-truncate or obtuse, not clasping the nut, often purplish, usually glabrous.
