Description:
Medium-sized dioecious trees; branchlets glabrous or tomentellous when young. Leaves paripinnate; leaflets 3-7-jugate, subsessile to shortly petiolulate, elliptic to oblong-elliptic, crenate, shallowly serrate or dentate or entire. Inflorescence a short to very short paniculate thyrse usually borne on a short shoot. Flowers unisexual, regular. Sepals 4 or 5(6). Petals 0. Disc small. Stamens (3)4-7, coiled in bud; staminodes of female flowers without anthers. Ovary 2-locular; locules 2-ovulate; style short; stigma 2-lobed; pistillode absent in male flowers. Fruit 1-locular (by abortion), +/- drupaceous. Seed 1, pendulous from apex of locule; testa provided with stomata; arillode absent.

Species 4: 3 in trop. Africa, 1 in Madagascar; sthn trop Afr. 2, Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique.
