Small tree or shrub up to 5 m. in height, sometimes scrambling or climbing; stems with younger parts bright yellow- or reddish-sericeous, older ones glabrous, lenticellate. Leaf-lamina 7-12 (15) x 0.5-4.5 cm., oblong, oblanceolate, oblong-ovate, oblong-oblanceolate, linear or linear-lanceolate, apex obtuse, subobtuse, or acuminate, base cuneate, rarely rounded, mostly quite glabrous on both surfaces (younger ones sometimes +/- pubescent), coriaceous, with 7-11 pairs of lateral nerves beneath, somewhat reticulate, with usually 2 (4) glands at the very base beneath; petiole stout, 2 (5)-10 (13) mm. long, canaliculate, usually glabrous. Inflorescences 5-15 (25) cm. long, of many-flowered racemes terminating leafy branches, very rarely axillary, pyramidal in outline; bracts up to 5 mm. long, subulate, persistent, eglandular; bracteoles 1-2.5 mm. long, subulate, eglandular. Flowers 2-3.3 cm. in diam. Calyx-lobes 3.5-5 mm. long, 2-2.5 mm. broad, broadly ovate to ovate, glabrous or rarely sericeous outside, the 2 anterior ones usually with 2 glands affixed near the edges above the base. Petals 10-15 mm. long, subcircular, yellowish, +/- lacerate, shortly unguiculate, claw c. 2 mm. long. Stamens with anthers c. 5 mm. long, lanceolate or lanceolate-oblong; filaments 2-2.5 mm. long, glabrous. Ovary densely hairy; styles +/- 1.5 mm. long, curved inwards. Samara with wing up to 3 (4) x 1.7-2.2 cm., broadly obliquely ovate, with the upper margin straight, rarely slightly curved, distally obtuse, surrounding the nut to the base.

Climber up to 5 m. in length; younger stems densely covered with short soft white sericeous hairs, older ones very finely pubescent or glabrescent. Leaves petiolate; lamina 6-12 x 4-9.5 cm., ovate-cordate, apex acute to shortly acuminate, membranous, pubescent or glabrescent above, grey-tomentose beneath and with 2 large glands near the base (usually concealed by the indumentum); petiole 1-3 cm. long, densely sericeous with usually 2 small glands above the middle. Flowers c. 1.5 cm. in diam., in dense axillary and terminal corymbs, evil-smelling; peduncles and rhachis sericeous; pedicels 1-1.5 cm. long, sericeous; bracts ovate; bracteoles lanceolate or linear-subulate. Sepals 2-2.5 mm. long, broadly ovate with a narrowed base, sericeous outside. Petals 6-7 mm. long, pale yellow, shortly unguiculate, ovate, carinate, subhastate at the base, usually reflexed. Stamens with anthers subversatile, 2.3-2.5 mm. long, oblong; filaments somewhat fleshy. Ovary densely sericeous; styles 2.5-3 mm. long, fairly stout, sericeous. Samara with lateral wing 1-2 cm. in diam., oblong-elliptic or oblong-obovate, with entire margins; dorsal wing absent.

A herbaceous or woody climber or scrambler. Younger stems densely +/- appressed greyish-silvery- or yellowish-sericeous, older ones +/- pubescent or nearly glabrous. Leaves petiolate; lamina 3.5-7.5 (11) x 1.7-5 (10) cm., ovate, ovate-subcircular or ovate-oblong, rarely oblong-elliptic, ovate-lanceolate or lanceolate, apex obtuse to acute, mostly distinctly apiculate, base subcordate to rounded or cuneate, greyish- or yellowish-sericeous-tomentose underneath, greyish-pubescent or arachnoid or glabrescent on the upper surface; petiole (0.5) 0.8-2.5 (4.5) cm. long, canaliculate, sericeous, with 2 glands in the upper half; stipules 2-4 mm. long, obovate, usually absent. Umbels 2-6-flowered; bracts +/- 2.5 mm. long, lanceolate; bracteoles 1.5-2 mm. long, oblong. Flowers 2-2.5 cm. in diam. Sepals +/- 2.5 mm. long, ovate or obovate-oblong, sericeous outside; petals 8-12 mm. long, obovate to obovate-oblong, yellow, unguiculate, usually entire. Stamens with anthers c. 1 mm. long, oblong, glabrous; filaments c. 4 mm. long, glabrous. Ovary densely sericeous; styles c. 5 mm. long. Samara with wing 1.5-2 x 1.1-1.5 cm., sericeous to nearly glabrous.
