Description: 
Shrubs, lianes or small trees, unarmed; branchlets, petioles and rachides puberulous. Leaves 2-pinnate; petiole and rachis eglandular; pinnae opposite, in 2-5(7) pairs, each with 4-15 pairs of opposite leaflets. Inflorescences of dense, many-flowered racemes which are axillary and solitary or up to three together, and often aggregated on +/- shortened shoots. Flowers bisexual. Calyx gamosepalous with 5 teeth. Petals 5, free or almost so, valvate in bud (or very slightly overlapping in their lower parts in P. fischeri ). Stamens 10, fertile anthers each with a caducous apical gland. Ovary hairy. Pods straight or somewhat curved, compressed, woody, oblong, dehiscing from apex downwards into 2 recurving valves. Seed s lying +/- obliquely in pod, each sunk in a depression in the valve, compressed, brown, glossy, unwinged, elliptic to +/- rhombic, without endosperm.
Distribution: 
Species 7, confined to trop. Africa; sthn trop. Afr. 2, Zambia, Mozambique.
