Description:
Climber, up to 4 m long, with simple hairs. Leaves elliptic-oblong to oblong-obovate, petiolate. Flowers bisexual, solitary or in 2-flowered cymes, leaf-opposed; buds subglobose; bracteole 1, caducous. Sepals 3, free, valvate. Petals 6, imbricate, in 2 whorls, subequal. Stamens many, connective with a dilated capitate apex. Carpels many, free, cylindric, +/-angular, 1(2)-ovulate. Fruit a fusiform, stipitate monocarp.

Species 2, trop. Africa; sthn trop. Afr. 1: Afroguatteria globosa Paiva, Angola (Cabinda).
